Chelo Vargas-Sierra earned her Master's Degree in Translation and Interpreting and a PhD in Translation from the University of Alicante (UA). In 2008 she was given the extraordinary Ph.D. award by the UA. She has also completed doctoral courses in Computer Applications at the same University, and earned her Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Translation: Localisation, Subtitling and Dubling (2017) from the Univerity of Cadiz, and a Master’s Degree in Terminology (2009) from the Institute for Applied Linguistics (IULA, Pompeu Fabra University).
She is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of English Studies (UA) and teaches Translation, Terminology, and CAT Tools in Graduate and Postgraduate courses (UA, IULA, Menéndez Pelayo International University, Ricardo Palma University, Lima). As a researcher of Inglés Profesional y Académico (Professional and Academic English) and Laboratorio de Lingüística Informática her main lines of research for which she has both published several articles and participated in seminars and conferences are Terminology, Terminography, Corpus Linguistics, Specialized Translation, and Computer-Aided Translation.
Currently, she is the director of the Interuniversity Institute of Modern Languages (IULMA).
She is also a sworn translator/interpreter recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
