From its inception, the DIGITENDER project was envisioned with a profound commitment to embedding a gender perspective within our research framework in applied linguistics and terminology. This commitment stemmed from a profound awareness of the disparities in representation and recognition of women across various domains. We found ourselves at a crossroad, with a question that gives rise to the project and is included in the Scientific Report:
How can terminologists, translators, and linguists contribute to the development of more egalitarian societies where women's roles in different disciplines are not only equally represented but their specific health issues are also recognized and addressed?
This question propelled our project's development and guided the objectives of DIGITENDER. It now assists us in exploring and developing methodologies that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries, aiming to foster a more inclusive discourse and the visualization and dissemination of women's specific health issues. By integrating linguistic and terminological analysis, corpus linguistics, and natural language processing (NLP), our project seeks to illuminate and address various issues regarding gender bias and inequality within biomedical discourse related to women's health.
Our goal is not simply to contribute to academic discourse through our research in the linguistic field but to humbly aspire to effect a tangible change in societal attitudes and policies regarding women's health issues.
